Elements 1 – A Dramatic Seascape by Trish Edwards
There is something about the coast when the weather turns dramatic.
Rather than a perfectly sunny day, Elements 1 captures the atmosphere of a moment when the sea, sky and light are constantly changing. Waves break across the shore beneath a dark, cloud-filled sky, while lighter areas in the distance create a striking contrast between shadow and illumination.
This limited edition print by Devon artist Trish Edwards is an atmospheric piece of coastal artwork that celebrates the more unpredictable side of the seaside.
Light, Weather and the Changing Coast
Trish Edwards is particularly interested in the way light and weather can transform a landscape.
As she explains:
“I rarely paint simply bright sunny days – I find more interesting contrast in light and shade when the weather is inclement, or when the sun is fighting to get through cloud!”
That feeling is particularly strong in Elements 1.
The darker sky creates a sense of drama, while flashes of lighter sky and water draw the eye towards the horizon. The waves add movement and energy, giving the painting a feeling that the scene is unfolding in front of you.
It is a very different view of the coast from a traditional sunny seaside picture – and perhaps one that anyone familiar with the Devon and South West coastline will recognise.
A Coastal Print with Atmosphere
The combination of stormy blues, soft greys, pale sand and bright highlights gives Elements 1 a calm yet powerful character.
