Vincent Rymer – Artist & Author
Vincent Rymer is an established contemporary abstract artist whose expressive paintings invite viewers to look beyond the surface and discover new ways of seeing the world. Working primarily on canvas, Vincent has exhibited his artwork for more than twenty-five years, with paintings now held in private collections throughout the United Kingdom as well as California, Japan and Denmark. His work combines colour, movement and symbolism to create paintings that encourage reflection, curiosity and personal interpretation.

Based in Teignmouth, Devon, Vincent continues to paint from his studio at Voyage Art, where he remains as passionate about creativity today as he has throughout his artistic career. Although now enjoying a slower pace following recent health challenges, his enthusiasm for painting, writing and creative exploration continues to shape his everyday life. Alongside his artwork, Vincent enjoys playing the guitar, dancing to trance music and playing table tennis—interests that reflect the same energy, rhythm and freedom found within his paintings.
Unlike artists who seek to reproduce the visible world, Vincent’s work explores ideas that exist beneath the surface. His paintings are inspired by an extraordinary range of influences, bringing together art, science, philosophy and spirituality into a visual language that is entirely his own. Among his greatest inspirations are Pablo Picasso, the mysteries of quantum physics, together with the teachings of Buddhism and Taoism. These diverse influences combine to produce artwork that is intellectually stimulating while remaining emotionally expressive and visually engaging.
For Vincent, painting is not about creating fixed answers but encouraging questions. He believes art should never be constrained or limited by rules, expectations or convention. Instead, each painting becomes an open conversation between artist and viewer, allowing every individual to discover their own personal meaning and emotional response.
The landscapes that surround him also play an important role in his work. Both the natural and built environments influence his imagination—from the quiet beauty of the countryside to the complexity of urban spaces. Rather than painting these scenes literally, Vincent absorbs their atmosphere, structure and rhythm before transforming them into abstract compositions that explore ideas of space, time and memory.
Everyday life provides an endless stream of visual experiences, thoughts and emotions. While many of these moments pass unnoticed, Vincent believes some gradually settle into the subconscious before re-emerging in unexpected ways through the creative process. His paintings become a visual translation of these experiences, blending observation, imagination and intuition into layered compositions that continue to reveal new details over time.

Abstraction provides Vincent with a powerful artistic language through which multiple ideas can exist simultaneously. Organic shapes interact with geometric forms, symbols emerge and disappear, and familiar references are fragmented before being reconstructed into entirely new visual experiences. The result is artwork that encourages viewers to pause, reflect and return again and again, often discovering something different with each viewing.
Alongside his career as a painter, Vincent is also an accomplished author, having self-published the three-volume series Bristol Sadhu, further demonstrating his lifelong fascination with creativity, philosophy and the exploration of ideas. Whether through painting or writing, he is driven by the same desire to challenge assumptions, celebrate imagination and encourage deeper thought.

Throughout his career, the arts have remained a constant source of inspiration and fulfilment. Vincent believes creativity has the unique ability to challenge accepted ideas, stimulate intellectual curiosity and express the complexities of human emotion. His paintings embrace the paradoxes of life—the balance between light and darkness, order and chaos, certainty and uncertainty—creating works that feel both deeply personal and universally relatable.
