With a background in textiles and design, Clare brings a deep understanding of composition, structure and surface to her painting practice. She completed her BA specialising in carpet design and began her career in Kidderminster, historically the centre of the British carpet industry. This design-led approach continues to influence her fine art, particularly in the way she builds layers and balances colour and form.

Alongside her design career, Clare has always maintained a strong drawing practice. She went on to study botanical illustration at Birmingham University and co-founded the Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists. The discipline of close observational drawing underpins all her work, informing her response to natural forms and landscapes alike.

Working directly from and with nature is central to Clare’s art. Careful observation of detailed water, seaweed, pebbles and light is evident in Teignmouth Beach Pebbles, giving the painting both energy and authenticity.
