Clare Jenkinson – Devon Botanical Artist & Landscape Painter

Inspired by Nature, Devon and the Beauty of Everyday Things

Clare Jenkinson, a Devon botanical artist, is a highly regarded Devon artist whose work beautifully captures the intricate details, colours and patterns found in the natural world.

Based in South Devon, Clare creates original paintings inspired by the landscapes, coastlines and natural treasures that surround her. From delicate botanical studies and collections of shells to wildflowers, fungi and insects, her work invites us to slow down and appreciate the beauty often hidden in everyday life.

Her paintings combine exceptional observational skill with a deep appreciation of nature, resulting in artwork that feels both calming and timeless.

From Textile Design to Fine Art

Clare originally studied textiles, specialising in carpet design as part of her BA degree before beginning her career in the heart of Britain’s carpet industry in Kidderminster.

Alongside her design work, she continued to develop her lifelong passion for drawing and painting, later studying botanical illustration at Birmingham University.

Her dedication to botanical art led to her becoming a founding member of the Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists.

Today, the discipline and attention to detail developed through years of observation continue to underpin every piece she creates.

Clare Jenkinson, a Devon botanical artist truely Celebrating the Natural World

Clare’s artwork is deeply rooted in observation.

Whether painting a collection of shells gathered from a beach, studying the structure of a flower or exploring the patterns found within fungi and insects, she is fascinated by the rhythm, colour and complexity of nature.

Working primarily in oils and watercolour, Clare creates paintings that balance scientific accuracy with artistic expression.

Her work often reflects the landscapes and coastlines of Devon, making her paintings particularly meaningful for those who love the South West and its natural beauty.

As Clare explains:

“My paintings and drawings are a response to my surroundings and my place within them – the beautiful landscape of Devon where I live, and the natural objects that are precious to each place. I paint collections of shells, flowers, insects, fungi and look for rhythm and pattern with this detailed work and work on a larger scale.  I love working in oils, experimenting with the marks, textures and powerful colour that the medium can create and also work in watercolour, devoting hours to a subject and using the smallest brushes.”
