About the Artist – John Skinner

John Skinner’s artistic journey has been anything but ordinary.

Born in London in 1959, he developed his unique painting style largely through self-teaching, creating the distinctive jewel-like quality that has become a hallmark of his work. Before establishing himself as a respected artist, John enjoyed success as the frontman of a cult pop band, received national recognition as a children’s book illustrator, and worked on projects for television, film and major commercial clients.

His creative career has included work for internationally recognised organisations, large-scale murals, illustration projects and signwriting commissions. Yet it was a visit to Devon in 1995 that changed everything.

Captivated by the region’s beauty, John chose to make Devon his home, drawing endless inspiration from its coastline, estuaries, harbours and ever-changing skies. Today, his paintings are celebrated for their colour, atmosphere and ability to capture the spirit of the places people love most.
