An Art Exhibition with a Twist

An Art Exhibition with a Twist

Virginia Griem Showing her Artwork

Teignmouth’s Arts Quarter has become a great hub for arts and creativity, open to all comers, and Voyage Arts Galleries in Somerset Place is currently holding an exhibition of paintings by artist Virginia Griem.  But this is an exhibition with a twist.  Virginia is not only showing her own paintings, but is also exhibiting paintings by her late father Gilbert Chapman ARIBA.

Recession Painting by Gilbert Chapman ARIBA

Virginia explains – When I started putting this exhibition together I looked round my house at walls not only hung with my own work, but also with my father’s work.  I thought how interesting it would be for his paintings to be seen by a wider public and decided to include them in my exhibition.  Gilbert  was not only an architect, but for many years was an Art Director at Pinewood Studios, and this can be seen in his art which is highly imaginative while precise in its perspective.  He has become an increasing influence on how my own art has developed. –

Virginia’s own paintings range from colourful abstracts to impressionistic street views, and this exhibition is a follow-on to a successful Open Studios also held at Voyage Arts Galleries in September. Virginia lives in Kingsteignton and is Co-chair and Secretary of Newton Abbot Art Group.  The exhibition is open daily and will run till Saturday 30th October at Voyage Arts Galleries, 11 Somerset Place, Teignmouth in the hub of the Arts Quarter.
